Experience the magnificent flowering bulb fields with thousands of hyacinths, narcissus and tulips in countless colors on a bike: exciting and very photogenic!

The scenery is beautiful and very Dutch. Most of the lanes and roads you bike on are almost completely flat! Amid the fields you will see modern and centuries old country houses and small towns.

If you are in Amsterdam in April you should take this unique opportunity to see all these flowers from a bike in only half a day! By the end of April - depending on the weather - most fields can allready be green again.

Enjoying the real Dutch bulb fields - instead of tulips in a park - as far as you can see:

The Tulips bike ride (about 20 kilometer) is not offered as a guided tour. If you would like to do this ride - at your own risk - you can easily do so with below hints.

Preparations:

1. buy bike map in any bookstore of the coastal Dutch area (around "De Zilk").
Study route with help of above small rough map:
Heemstede-Aerdenhout -> Vogelenzang -> road along "Leidse Trekvaart" -> until "Halfweg" (near Keukenhof Gardens) -> via Zilkerpolder -> De Zilk -> Vogelenzang -> back to Heemstede-Aerdenhout

2. phone bike hire in Heemstede-Aerdenhout (at trainstation):
- to reserve a bike (only by phone!) and ask for conditions:
- like deposit € ... (cash) + rent € ...  (cash) + bring passport

Train:

- buy return trainticket Amsterdam to Heemstede-Aerdenhout  (23 minutes)
- check departure time + platform
- in 2007: - € 7,30 p.p.
                - departure every half hour at .40 and .10 from platform 2A (via Haarlem)

Heemstede-station:

exit station at west-entrance, turn left and there is the bike hire
